Keirsey Type & Leadership |
|
"The leader's first job is to match talent to task" writes David Keirsey in his book Please Understand Me II. He goes on to say...
that "The best policy for a leader of any temperament is to look for intelligence and put it to work where it is most effective." By intelligence, he is referring to specific types of intelligence primarily associated with the four major subtypes. The intelligence types are Tactical, Logistical, Diplomatic, and Strategic.
He goes on to write "The leader's second job is appreciation." We've expressed this a bit differently with some of our clients when we're advising them to let their managers manage and to focus on the need for ledership in the business. We've asked the question "What if your only job was to tell everyone what a great job they're doing, and how pleased you are with their efforts?" This is often in an effort to get them to stop micromanaging their managers and the rest of the staff, which comes from the typical entrepreneur's need to do everything themselves even when it's counterproductive to the healthy growth of the business.
They're often dumbfounded when they hear the question. What do you think the leader's first and second jobs are?
